As of July 2012, the FDA has approved Truvada as PrEP for daily use. PrEP stands for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis. It is a medication (Truvada) taken daily to prevent the acquistion of HIV. PrEP is an extremely important and groundbreaking tool used to fight the spread of HIV. Below are some quick facts regarding PrEP you should know.
 
PrEP is:
  • Proven to be over 90% effective in several clinical trials.
  • Does not prevent any other STI's - When taking PrEP, regular STI testing is required by your provider.
  • Does not prevent pregnancy - If you are pregnant or planning on becoming pregnant, let us know know.
  • Has minimal side effects - Truvada is a tolerable medication with minimal side effects upon startup.
  • Can be accessed for free by insured and uninsured patients - ASK US HOW!
